Prompted by the alarming increase in opioid overdoses and the legalization/medicalization of marijuana across the U.S., CenterPointe Hospital held its Spring Conference 2017 on Addiction and Treatment Modalities on May 4th at the scenic Old Hickory Golf Club in St. Peters.
The esteemed presenters were Azfar Malik MD, Chief Medical Officer of CenterPointe Hospital; Raafia Malik, MD, Medical Director of The Changing Pointe Addiction Treatment Center at CenterPointe; and Donald Bohnenkamp, MD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Washington University. The conference was well-received by an audience of 250 participants, rep-resenting a wide range of healthcare professionals, community leaders and educators.
The conference provided an overview of addiction treatment and interventions, discussed underlying psychological condi-tions including depression, anxiety, trauma and bipolar disorder, provided an overview of cannabis, as well as a discussion on its effects on major psychiatric illness.
