Dr. Cara Wallace presented on the topic, “Boundaries and Ethical Issues in Healthcare Settings” at CenterPointe Hospital’s Behavioral Health Lecture series on September 22nd to an audience of nearly 200 healthcare professionals and community leaders.
Dr. Wallace presented several models providing helpful guidelines in making ethical and boundary decisions. She engaged the audience is discussions about important boundary issues, including, when and how is it appropriate to accept gifts from patients, use spirituality in counseling and introduce health and safety interventions, to name a few. While there are not always easy or clear decisions in every situation, reviewing ethical guidelines and consulting with peers and supervisors are essential first steps in determining what actions are in the best interest of the client.
